Itinerary

On the Highlands Horseback Riding Bogota Tour, you will be driven to a rural location 40 minutes to the southeast of the capital. There, a local cowboy will be expecting you with tame - yet powerful - horses ready for the adventure. After some instructions and advice, you will start the ride. Going up to 3200 msnm with great climatic diversity due to the different elevations of the mountain. After an hour ride, you will reach a fantastic lookout point from where you will be able to see the Monserrate Hill, and further even Bogotá off in the distance.
After a break (for stretching your legs and having a snack), you will start your way back to the ranch via another path, making a loop.
Once back to the camp, a hot homemade meal, prepared using fresh, local ingredients from the garden, will be waiting for you. After lunch and an adventurous day, you’ll return to the city, back to your hotel or preferred destination.

Stop At: Zipaquira, Zipaquirá, Cundinamarca, Colombia

Get to know an antique train station which nowadays only works during the weekends and takes dozens of visitors from Bogotá to Zipaquirá. This railway was a commercial link between Bogotá and the salt mines. Today, the same classic steam train that dates back to the end of the nineteenth century is used as a tourist train. It goes slowly through the flatlands of the Savannah to the old village of Zipaquirá.
Once at the Zipaquirá station, you will continue the journey to the Salt Cathedral of Zipaquirá by your own on a shuttle bus. The Salt Mine is a splendid work of modern engineering and art opened to the public in 1995, adapted to be a cathedral. The materials found underground were manipulated by artists and sculptors that with some help of special lighting effects, created a unique interpretation of Catholic iconography.
After your visit to the Cathedral, the same shuttle service will drive you to the traditional village of Cajicá. There you will have time for lunch and for wandering around the main square. Afterward, the train will depart and get you back to Bogotá by 4:30 pm.
